How much would it cost to put heat and electicity in an attic?
So my friend has this attic that she would like to make into her room. The attic is fairly large, probably like 40' by 20'. Anyways, she wants to know how much it would cost to put in vents and electricity. Has anyone ever done this before?

I've done this many times.
But it's not just a matter of adding vents and electricity.
Not by a long shot.
I wish it was,
it'd make my life a whole lot easier!
First of all,
you're going to be adding footage to your living space.
That's going to make your furnace work harder to heat up the added space.
Furnaces are rated by BTU's and you need a certain amount of BTU's to heat a certain amount of footage.
The electrical is fairly easy.
Just a matter of adding breakers for outlets and lighting and such.
But there really are a whole list of things you have to consider to do it right and according to code.
So my advice to you is to call a few Contractors and have them inspect it and give you bids to do the job.
You can then get an idea of what exactly is involved.
